Why Drivers Choose Hand-Built Fortune Auto Coilovers

Fortune Auto has spent more than a decade engineering performance shocks in the United States. The brand is widely considered high quality, reputable, and versatile across daily drivers and dedicated track cars. Each kit sold is hand assembled at Fortune Auto's Virginia facility, custom valved to your spring rate, and dyno tested before it ships. Each shock is matched left to right within tight tolerance and shipped with its dyno graph.

Custom spring rates are available at no additional cost on most kits. When the customer specifies a custom rate, Fortune Auto changes the valving to match. Rates without matching valving are common in the market. Fortune Auto does not take that shortcut.

Each Fortune Auto shock is built from over 100 individual components in a meticulous assembly process at the Virginia facility. The engineering team uses Finite Element Analysis during the design phase to ensure each part can withstand race-use loads. This is the discipline behind the brand's reputation for build quality and consistency.

The shocks run a monotube damper charged with high-pressure nitrogen, which prevents oil aeration during hard use and keeps damping force consistent through long sessions. The digressive piston produces stiff low-speed force for control over roll, dive, and squat. At higher shaft speeds it blows off, so the car stays soft over road bumps. Every shock is built and dyno tested on Roehrig 2VS shock dynos, and Fortune Auto matches the set within a tight tolerance. The result is consistent performance across all four corners.

The other Fortune Auto difference is the modular upgrade architecture. A 500 Series kit can grow into a 510, Pro 2-Way Dreadnought, or Pro 3-Way Dreadnought without buying new shocks. Shock bodies and core suspension components carry forward, and Fortune Auto's Virginia facility performs in-house overhaul and rebuild service.

Every kit sold by Coilovers.com and installed on a customer car is covered by Fortune Auto's 5-year limited manufacturer's warranty. Hard parts (mounts, top hats, camber plates, shock body) are covered for 5 years on the kit as sold. Consumables (seals, shafts, fluids, pillowball mounts) are covered for 1 year. Claims go through Fortune Auto North America. Owners regularly cite the warranty as a reason they trust the brand for long-term performance.

Short version: a Fortune Auto set is built in the United States, custom valved to your spring rate, dyno tested before shipping. Every kit is engineered to grow with your build.

Fortune Auto Coilover Series Lineup and Suspension System Options

The Generation 8 range covers six primary series we carry. The Fortune Auto 500 is the entry point and the most popular. The 500 SL is the lowered-car configuration of the 500 Series. The 510 Series, MSC 1-Way, Pro 2-Way Dreadnought, and Pro 3-Way Dreadnought each add capability for harder driving.

Fortune Auto 500 Series: Single-Adjustable Coilovers for Street and Track

The Fortune Auto 500 is the entry into the Generation 8 lineup. It is the right choice for modified street builds, weekend autocross, and occasional track-day duty. Each kit uses a monotube damper, the High Flow Digressive Piston, and offers 24 steps of damping adjustment. Ride height adjusts independent of spring preload. The 500 is the kit most customers install first and keep installed for years.

Fortune Auto 500 details: Monotube damper, high-pressure nitrogen. High Flow Digressive Piston. 24-step adjustment. Custom spring rates. Premium chrome silicon coils. T6 6061 aluminum mounts and camber plates.

Fortune Auto 500 SL: Lowered-Car Configuration of the 500 Series

The 500 SL is the lowered-car configuration of the Fortune Auto 500 Series, with shortened shock bodies that drop ride height approximately 2.5 to 5 inches below OEM. The 500 SL must be ordered specifically. Any kit using v-barrel coils cannot be built as 500 SL. The right pick when a deeper drop than the standard 500 Series is the goal.

500 SL details: Same monotube damper, High Flow Digressive Piston, 24-step adjustment, and modular upgrade architecture as the standard 500 Series. Shortened shock body for the lower ride-height range.

510 Series: Refined Single-Adjustable with Concave Flow Digressive Piston

The 510 Series uses Fortune Auto's Concave Flow Digressive Piston (CFD). The CFD offers a wider effective adjustment range than a conventional digressive shock and stays soft over road bumps while keeping low-speed body control. A conventional damper can typically handle a 2 kg/mm spring rate change before needing a revalve. The CFD piston accommodates roughly 8 kg/mm. We recommend the 510 Series when one set must handle street comfort and serious track time without a revalve in between.

510 Series details: Monotube damper, high-pressure nitrogen. Concave Flow Digressive Piston. 24-step simultaneous rebound and compression adjustment. Custom spring rates. Assembly certificate and dyno graph supplied.

MSC 1-Way: Coilovers for High-Line and Exotic Cars

The MSC 1-Way shock was developed by Fortune Auto with Müller suspension specialists. It is designed and assembled in the United States. The MSC 1-Way is the right kit for high-line cars and exotic supercars, including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, McLaren, and Porsche. Fitment, materials, and finish quality matter most on these builds. Swift Springs come standard (Hyperco available as a substitute), with spherical bearings and bright dip anodized hardware.

Fortune Auto Pro 2-Way coilover with bright dip anodized hardware

MSC 1-Way details: Monotube damper, high-pressure nitrogen. Swift Springs standard. Spherical bearings. Bright dip anodized. T6 6061 aluminum mounts and camber plates.

Pro 2-Way Dreadnought: Independent Compression and Rebound

The Pro 2-Way Dreadnought is Fortune Auto's double-adjustable shock. Compression and rebound are independently adjustable, with 24 steps on each. The Pro 2-Way uses the same Concave Flow Digressive Piston as the 510. The wide effective range carries forward into the double-adjustable platform. The Pro 2-Way is the right choice when compression and rebound need to be tuned separately.

Pro 2-Way details: Monotube damper, high-pressure nitrogen. CFD piston. 24-step rebound and 24-step compression, independent. Custom spring rates. Assembly certificate and dyno graph supplied.

Pro 3-Way Dreadnought: The Triple-Adjustable Flagship

The Pro 3-Way Dreadnought is the most adjustable kit in the range, equipped on some of the fastest cars in the world. It separates rebound (24 steps), low-speed compression (24 steps), and high-speed compression (17 steps) into three independent adjustments. This is the level of damping control that pro-level club racing, time attack, and dedicated track builds need.

Pro 3-Way factory spec: Monotube damper, high-pressure nitrogen. CFD piston. 24-step rebound, 24-step low-speed compression, 17-step high-speed compression, all independent. Custom spring rates. Assembly certificate and dyno graph supplied.

All Generation 8 kits ship with the modular path open and the 5-year limited warranty on hard parts.

Custom Spring Rate Service and Swift Springs Upgrade

Custom spring rates are available at order time on most Fortune Auto kits at no additional cost. When the customer specifies a custom spring rate, Fortune Auto valves the dampers to match that spring rate. Brands offering rates without matching valving take a shortcut Fortune Auto does not take.

The standard spring rate Fortune Auto assigns is tuned for a balanced street and occasional-track build. We recommend the standard spring rate for most customers, since it stays comfortable for daily driving and stiff enough for considerably better handling than stock. Highest quality chrome silicon springs ship as the standard option, and these springs deliver a road feel most owners prefer over stock.

The Swift Springs upgrade is offered on most kits. Swift uses a proprietary alloy and is widely regarded as among the highest quality motorsport springs sold today. Compared to standard Fortune Auto coils, Swift springs offer a more consistent rate through the stroke, larger usable stroke, and faster response. They also resist height loss better over time. The performance gain is most noticeable on the track. Hyperco springs are also offered. Hyperco performance is close to Swift, and Hyperco is the right pick for customers who prefer an American-made spring.

Track use only, rebuild every 1,000 miles or 1 year. Customers who have contacted Fortune Auto for overhaul service get the kit returned to factory spec.

Where are fortune coilovers made? Designed and assembled at Fortune Auto's Virginia facility (Powhatan County, in the Richmond, VA metro area). Engineering, assembly, dyno testing, and overhaul service for Fortune Auto coilovers all happen in the United States.

Are Fortune Auto coilovers adjustable? Yes. Every kit offers ride height adjustment independent of spring preload, plus damping adjustability. The 500 and 510 provide 24-step damping. The Pro 2-Way adds independent rebound and compression. The Pro 3-Way adds independent high-speed compression on top.

Is there a warranty? 5-year limited manufacturer's warranty on hard parts, 1 year on consumables. Parts and labor covered, shipping not. Claims go through Fortune Auto North America.

Can I rebuild the shocks? Yes. Fortune Auto offers an in-house Overhaul Service at its Virginia facility.

Do I need a wheel alignment after installing coilovers? Yes. After installing any coilover kit, a four-wheel alignment is essential. The new ride height changes camber, toe, and caster. Skipping the alignment causes uneven tire wear and poor handling. Plan the alignment as part of the install job.

Fortune Auto coilover install in progress with damping adjustment

What starting damping setting should I use? Start with the manufacturer-recommended middle-range setting, around half of the 24 clicks of adjustment. From there, soften for daily comfort or stiffen for track work based on how the car feels.

What is the modular upgrade path? A 500 Series kit can grow into a 510, then into a Pro 2-Way or Pro 3-Way Dreadnought. The shock body and core suspension components carry forward.

What are the lowering capabilities? Standard 500 and 510 kits drop approximately 1 to 3 inches below OEM. The 500 SL configuration drops approximately 2.5 to 5 inches below OEM (see the 500 SL section above for the full description).

What is the Swift Springs upgrade? Swift Springs replace the standard chrome silicon coils with a proprietary-alloy spring. Many customers report improved ride quality and feel after the swap. Standard springs are good. Swift is top of the line.

How does the Hyperco option compare? Hyperco performance is close to Swift, and Hyperco is the American-made spring choice.

What are the benefits of spherical heim joints on the 510? Stiffer ride for track use, easier camber setting, no play. Drawbacks: more cabin noise and a maintenance requirement.

Why an aluminum damper body? Weight savings over steel. T6 6061 aluminum is used in the mounts and camber plates across the lineup.

What pre-load setting should I use? Fortune Auto recommends 1/4 inch on McPherson struts and 1/8 inch on double-wishbone setups.

Do all kits work with damping adjusters? Rear damping adjuster access varies by application. Some cars may require adjustment extenders for inaccessible rear shocks, while others may not be compatible with a given extender setup. Confirm fitment before ordering.

Do these shocks work for rally? No. The kits are engineered for road, autocross, and track use. Rally is a different use case.
